Spectrum

Baylor spectrum research promotes solutions that that enhance safety, security, resource allocation and more.

Spectrum

The radio spectrum constitutes all available frequencies for wireless communication between devices with applications for radio and television broadcasts, RADAR, GPS, and cellular voice and data service.

While the spectrum’s impact on consumer technologies like phones and tablets is huge, spectrum also has application to other industries, like automotive and defense. Military spectrum use keeps our soldiers safer using long-range weapons and remote-controlled drones and it also helps them communicate more efficiently and securely to better understand threats.

Baylor seeks discovery to enhance the ways we utilize the opportunities presented. Although demand for spectrum space is increasing, the spectrum itself is a finite resource. Addressing the needs of private, public, and defense users requires new ideas and advanced technologies. Baylor University is at the forefront of these efforts with focuses on allocation & sharing, security, policy, and privacy.

Baylor engineers have recently received a planning grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a National Spectrum Innovation Initiative (SII) Center aimed at developing strategies for adaptive use and sharing of limited spectrum space.

Additionally, the Baylor Cybersecurity Research and Education Initiative seeks to improve understanding of the ways in which people, processes, and technology can be harnessed to improve information security and reduce threats, particularly for industrial and governmental organizations.
