Research Initiatives Receive Boost

Baylor Advanced Research Institute (BARI) Created

With an understanding of the need for scientists to work closely with industry to develop technologies that can move to the marketplace, Baylor Regents endorse the creation of the Baylor Advanced Research Institute (BARI) in 2007. BARI’s mission was to attract, coordinate, and facilitate research and training in the sciences and technology through partnerships with industries, businesses, entrepreneurs, government entities. BARI became the catalyst for creating new and emerging research clusters, interdisciplinary research programs, and industrial collaborations with Baylor faculty. BARI’s involvement with the planning and operations of the BRIC discovery park was a natural next step in advancing the research mission of the university. and educational institutions. Bari brought together the academic and research objectives of Baylor and engaged the community by:

• Providing increased opportunities for Baylor faculty and students to engage in cutting-edge research with industry.
• Nurturing and protecting the intellectual property of collaborative research projects.
• Facilitating the commercialization of university intellectual property.
• Participating in the economic development of the region.

BARI began the process of Baylor moving to be a partner with external industry collaboration, workforce development, and regional/state economic development partners.
